Change Your Self-Talk

Change your self-talk

Is it time to change your self-talk?

What are your conversations with yourself like?

Years ago, if you would have put one of them secret recorders in my mind, you would have heard conversations like this in my head:

“I’m no good.”

“I am ugly.”

“No one will want me.”

“I dress badly.”

“I’ll never make it.”

“I’ll always be poor and a failure.”

“I’m so depressed.”

"I'm accident prone."

"I always get sick."

“Something bad will happen around the corner.”

Sound familiar?

If I were to say these things to another human being I would be horrified, yet this was a regular conversation with myself.

Not surprisingly, I developed an autoimmune disease where my immune system attacked my body, instead of protecting it. I was attacking myself all the time with my words and my life reflected it.

Fortunately I became aware of this and bit by bit I started being a little kinder to myself.

Jack Canfield rid himself of many negative thoughts just from this simple technique.

Every day he looked in a mirror and told himself his WINS.

It could be what he achieved in his life... What was good about his day, etc...

E.g. "You did really well in making time for your family. You did well by speaking with that person today. You achieved X, Y, Z in the past. These are all wins."

After 40 consecutive days of telling himself wins in the mirror, he found most of his negative self-talk had gone.

I realised I had to change my self-talk.

I went from looking in the mirror saying, "This is what I don't like about you! I wish I was born as someone else," to, "You're beautiful - I love you. There's no one else like you. I wouldn't swap you for the world."

Now if you were to put a recorder in my mind, it would seem like I was a completely different person.

Some may even consider this to be boastful or vain.

“I’m a genius.”

“I have a brilliant mind.”

“I am rich.”

“Good things always happen to me.”

“I do the best in what I do.”

“This world is an extraordinary place.”

“I love the clothes I wear.”

"My body is full of vitality."

“Let’s have fun.”

My life has shifted because of it.

The autoimmune disease is gone (to the disbelief of the rheumatologist) and I live a more fulfilled happy life.

Abraham says,

“It was never your intention to control everything around you. It was your intention to control the DIRECTION of your THOUGHT.”

Your work is to change the STORY you tell yourself. This raises your vibration.

The outside world is the mirror reflection of this.

Don’t fight the reflection.

Adjust the image in the mirror.

I'll be talking about how we attract through our self-talk in the Creating Excellence series from the 11th October 2024.
